The Balaban interceptor by Phantom Defense can return to base after patrol missions
The UAV can remain airborne for over two hours and operate within a 70 km radius

Ukrainian company Phantom Defense has unveiled the Balaban fixed-wing interceptor drone. One of the platform’s key features is its reusability — if no target is detected, the UAV automatically returns to base.
As Defender Media learned from the manufacturer, the Balaban can remain airborne for over two hours, reach speeds of around 250 km/h, and operate within a radius of up to 70 km. Its maximum payload capacity is 1.2 kg, and the UAV is catapult-launched.
The system is equipped with an autopilot that enables automated missions and flight control via a ground station. In the event of a loss of communication or upon an operator’s command, the UAV automatically returns to its launch point if target interception has not occurred. During the return and landing phases, the operator can remotely activate the onboard illumination.
For navigation, the Balaban can utilise not only satellite positioning systems but also an alternative positioning method using radio beacons with a stated accuracy of up to 100 m. The drone also supports two-way telemetry for real-time transmission of system status data, remote power management of the video transmitter, and video channel switching during flight.

According to Phantom Defense, the Balaban has become part of an integrated counter-UAS ecosystem. This ecosystem also includes Skydarix AI-powered radar systems, Specter electronic warfare systems, the Streamhunter video interception system, and Karakurt net launchers.
The platform is currently being prepared for codification. Meanwhile, the Balaban has already received a certificate of conformity and is ready for delivery to the armed forces under direct contracts. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the drone’s price.
