Speed of up to 500 km/h and AI-assisted terminal guidance: WIY showcases SPYS interceptor

The SPYS interceptor drone developed by Ukrainian-German company Quantum WIY Industries has intercepted a jet-powered Geran-5. Footage of the interception was published on social media.

The Technological Forces of Ukraine later released a presentation of the interceptor. According to the data presented, the drone can reach speeds of up to 500 km/h thanks to its electronic components and specially developed Ukrainian motors from Motor-G. Its range is 20–30 km, flight time is 5 minutes, and the warhead weighs 300 grams.

The system is designed to protect critical infrastructure, mobile units and military positions. The UAV can be launched from the ground or carrier platforms, and it can rapidly close the distance and intercept a target before it enters the protected zone—both head-on and in pursuit, including while the enemy UAV is diving.

The drone is undergoing its first combat tests in cooperation with units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. According to the team, they have already recorded the first intercepts of the enemy’s jet-powered strike UAVs Tests conducted by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence confirmed the product’s key technical and performance characteristics and its ability to intercept the enemy’s jet-powered strike UAVs.

The manufacturer describes the platform’s high level of automation as a key feature. SPYS supports automatic take-off, routing to the interception area and automated AI-assisted terminal guidance to the target. To reduce the time between detection and neutralisation, the drone integrates with WIY’s standard software, radars and other sources of target data. Depending on the mission, the drone can be equipped with a daylight or thermal imaging camera for operation at different times of day.

According to the manufacturer, SPYS is an upgraded and enhanced version of the STRILA interceptor. The platform is being developed with a manual launch mechanism, a target acquisition monitor, and a function to instantly switch video channels in flight.

Defender Media previously reported on German company Quantum Systems’ investment in WIY Drones in spring 2026. The STRILA interceptor was named as the main product of the cooperation. The company did not disclose the investment amount. Quantum Systems later announced the creation of the Quantum WIY Industries joint venture as part of the Build with Ukraine initiative.
