Quantum Systems, a German developer and manufacturer of reconnaissance drones, has raised €160 million in a Series C funding round. In its official announcement, the company refers to itself as the first European unicorn in the dual-use technology sector—meaning its valuation in this round exceeded €1 billion.

The round was led by Balderton Capital. Other participants included Hensoldt, Airbus Defense and Space, Bullhound Capital, LP&E AG, along with HV Capital, Project A, Peter Thiel, DTCP, Omnes Capital, Airbus Ventures, Porsche SE, and Notion. The total investment in Quantum Systems has reached €310 million. The funds will be used for global expansion, scaling up production, and further development of autonomous drones, software, and AI systems.

Quantum Systems was founded in 2015 by Florian Seibel, who also founded the company Stark. Its headquarters is located in Munich. In total, the company employs 550 people across Germany, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania.

Quantum Systems in Ukraine

Vertical take-off reconnaissance drones Vector by Quantum Systems have been used in Ukraine since May 2022. In spring 2023, Quantum Systems opened a Service, Support, Training and Logistics Center (SSTLC) in Ukraine. The center started training Vector drone operators and servicing the drones. Later, a dedicated R&D center was established based on the SSTLC.

In 2024, the company became a resident of Diia City and launched its own manufacturing facility in Ukraine. In April 2024, Quantum Systems announced plans to employ around 100 people at its Ukrainian plant and to produce approximately 1,000 drones per year. The company intended to invest €6 million in this project.

The plant initially began with the production of spare parts for the Vector. In 2025, the company planned to launch full-scale production of the Vector in Ukraine. The Ukrainian office is headed by Oleksandr Berezhnyi. In 2024, he told the DOU portal that the Ukrainian office’s R&D division was actively growing, including the establishment of software development and advanced research departments. The company continues to actively hire personnel in Ukraine.

In early 2025, the company released a new modification of its flagship drone—the Vector AI. According to the company, this product has already been tested on the Ukrainian battlefield, providing aerial reconnaissance in areas where GPS signal and stable communication are unavailable.

Recently, Quantum Systems announced a strategic partnership with Ukrainian startup Frontline and became the lead investor in its seed round.
