Wild Hornets reveal details of how their air defence unit works

Ukrainian defence tech company Wild Hornets has revealed the results of Night Hornets’ work, its air defence unit. According to the manufacturer, the unit has operated under an agreement with the Armed Forces since 2024.

Night Hornets, together with Ukrainian military personnel, developed and tested prototypes of Sting interceptor drones. Since summer 2025, the unit’s instructors have been training interceptor pilots and are now combining training with combat work. Their work is funded by the company.

Since 2024, the Night Hornets crew has shot down 36 targets. ‘Thanks to Hornet Vision Ctrl, we have confirmed 21 kills and hit 9–10 more,’ says the head of the unit. Hornet Vision Ctrl is a remote-control system for Sting interceptor drones. In total, the military has used it to intercept more than a thousand enemy drones.

Thanks to the remote-control system, the Night Hornets unit can operate drones while based in the Kyiv region. The company explains that spotters – specialists who prepare the drone when a target appears – are on duty in the east of the country.

Hornet Vision Ctrl was unveiled in March this year, and in summer it became the first drone remote-control system to be codified by the Ministry of Defence. The system includes a ground control station with a digital video system and an omnidirectional antenna, as well as equipment for remotely connecting the operator’s workstation.
