Defence Tech Education in May: Upcoming Courses from Beetroot Academy

Demand for engineers in Ukraine’s defence tech sector has grown alongside the rapid development of defence technologies since 2022. At the same time, competition for these roles remains lower than in software development, with an average of around seven applications per vacancy — highlighting a shortage of specialists.

Against this backdrop, interest in transitioning from traditional IT into hardware, embedded systems, and related fields is increasing. However, the number of educational programs that provide practical skills for such a shift remains limited.

Beetroot Academy is opening enrollment for several programs in May, focusing on hands-on engineering tasks and real-world use cases.

→ May 15 — Drones Firmware
2 months · twice a week
Hands-on work with Betaflight, ArduPilot, and PX4 focused on real engineering tasks: configuration, integration, and working with flight controllers.

→ May 18, 25, 27 — Embedded Development
5 months · 3 times a week
A full embedded development cycle: from basic programming to working with microcontrollers and hardware. The skills are applicable in both civil tech and defence-related fields.

→ May 26 — Defence Tech for non-technical professionals
1.5 months · twice a week
An overview of the industry: products, stakeholders, business models, and the specifics of working in the defence sector. No technical background required.

→ May 28 — Computer Vision
1 month · 6 classes
A practical course for technical specialists without an ML background. Includes working with real code, building your own detector, and understanding the full computer vision pipeline.

The educational programs include live sessions with industry practitioners, hands-on work with applied tasks, and an intensive learning pace.
