Ukrainian SkyFortress acoustic air target detection system is being deployed in Lithuania. The military plans to assess how well it can detect and recognise low-flying drones, according to a statement by the republic’s Ministry of National Defence.

The SkyFortress system is designed to detect airborne objects by sound. It uses acoustic sensors that track the characteristic sound of missiles and drones and transmits the data to mobile fire groups.

The contract for the use of SkyFortress in Lithuania was signed this summer. It also covers processing of the data collected by the sensors, use of libraries of acoustic and radio-frequency digital signatures based on unclassified data, and personnel training.

Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence says it is consistently strengthening the entire air defence chain, from surveillance to target interception.

In 2025, SkyFortress used 14,000 sensors to detect targets in Ukraine, United24 reports. With NATO support, the number was planned to be increased to 30,000.

The single module’s cost ranges from $400 to $1,000. According to United24, Romania has also tested the detection system.
