Ground Systems upgrades heavy VATAG UGV, boosts speed to 42 km/h
Since its debut, the system has improved its control and communications systems. The platform’s autonomy has also increased

Ukrainian company Ground Systems has successfully completed trials of the VATAG multifunctional unmanned ground vehicle in its 8×8 configuration. During the tests, the platform reached speeds of up to 42 km/h.
The heavy UGV can carry more than 2 tonnes of payload. The platform is designed to perform a wide range of tasks, from providing logistical support to military units to direct participation in combat operations.
As Defender Media learned from the manufacturer, the project has evolved significantly since the platform was first unveiled in autumn 2025 and has received several technical upgrades. The improvements include the control systems, communications equipment, modular architecture, and increased platform autonomy.
The VATAG was first unveiled in September 2025. The platform is equipped with a hybrid powertrain and can be used as a mobile power source for military equipment. Its capabilities include autonomous cargo unloading, navigation using machine vision, LiDAR, and sensors, convoy mode, and mission execution with autonomous adaptation to the environment.
The platform’s design also allows for the integration of weapons. For fire support missions, the system can be equipped with a 25 mm remote weapon station developed by Ground Systems.

At the same time, Ground Systems stated that, for security reasons, it is currently unable to disclose the platform’s current price, certain technical specifications, or changes to its configuration.
