Ukrainian forces have for the first time filmed the interception of a new type of Russian aerial threat — Gerbera drones used as airborne carriers for FPV drones. The targets were destroyed using P1-SUN interceptor drones developed by SkyFall.

In total, Ukrainian operators detected and shot down five Russian Gerbera drones carrying FPVs in a single day. Units involved in the interceptions included the “Voron” crew of the 58th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade and the “Boks” crew of the 302nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment.

Footage from P1-SUN onboard cameras captures the interception moments, showing “Gerbera” drones with FPV drones mounted on their upper platforms. The videos clearly reveal structural elements, including the FPV drones’ X-shaped frames and propellers.

The Gerbera is a Russian UAV initially used primarily as a low-cost decoy to overload Ukrainian air defence systems or as a reconnaissance drone. However, in early 2026, Ukrainian Defence Ministry adviser Serhii Beskrestnov (“Flash”) reported that Russia had begun using Gerbera drones as airborne FPV carriers.

According to SkyFall, the growing number of such targets may indicate that Russian forces are shifting from isolated experiments to more systematic use of this tactic. In practice, this represents a new category of threat, with Gerbera drones acting as airborne launch platforms that extend the operational range of FPV drones.

The P1-SUN interceptor drone is designed to destroy Shahed drones and other aerial targets. It can reach speeds of up to 310 km/h, operate at altitudes of up to 9,000 metres, and engage targets within a radius of up to 33 km from the launch point. The drone can pursue a target for up to 17 minutes and carries a warhead weighing up to 800 grams.

SkyFall says the interceptor uses AI-assisted targeting technology that highlights enemy targets on the operator’s screen and enables automated engagement.
