The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is launching a new procurement model for innovative solutions that could potentially be used by the military. This experimental project enables the rapid procurement, testing, and implementation of such products, writes Mykhailo Fedorov.

“These are innovative goods, technologies, software, and solutions that can enhance the capabilities of the armed forces right now,” the minister added.

From now on, the procurement of innovative products will follow a simplified procedure. Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive them for combat testing and will make decisions regarding their effectiveness. Verified products will be eligible for inclusion in supply requests.

According to the plan, this project is intended to supply the armed forces only with equipment that has been verified for effectiveness. To the same end, the Ministry of Defence had previously updated its approach to drone procurement. From now on, drone needs will be shaped by battlefield statistics, in order to minimise human intervention and eliminate the “zoo” of ineffective solutions.
