ПUkrainian company AIDronesUA has presented an upgraded version of the MAUL evacuation unmanned ground vehicle in Canada. The presentation took place at an event attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, AIDronesUA told Defender Media.

The company also signed a memorandum with a Canadian partner covering production, development and technology exchange. The parties have not disclosed details of the memorandum.

According to AIDronesUA CEO Kostiantyn Hushcha, Ukraine is sharing experience gained in real combat conditions with international partners and using it to further develop technologies.

Evacuation unmanned ground vehicles are a distinct class of systems, as their characteristics directly affect the ability to evacuate wounded personnel. “Ukraine is confronting many of these challenges first. Today, our task is to turn this experience into solutions that can be scaled up and shape new approaches to robotic evacuation,” Hushcha said.

MAUL is an evacuation UGV developed in cooperation with the First Medical Battalion. Key characteristics for systems of this type include speed, off-road capability, protection, suspension, casualty restraint and reliable communications.

“Ukraine and Canada have laid the foundations for a long-term partnership in which defence innovation, unmanned systems and technological cooperation are key areas. It is particularly important for us that Ukrainian companies and Ukrainian technologies are already part of this process,” the AIDronesUA CEO said in a statement.

In August, AIDronesUA was also reported to have signed an agreement with US-based Empery Digital Inc. and Sweden’s NJORD Technology.
