Ukrspecsystems equips RAM-2X mid-strike drone with terminal guidance system capable of locking onto targets from up to 3 km

The current version of Ukrspecsystems’ RAM-2X mid-strike drone features a terminal guidance system that allows it to lock onto a target from up to 3 km away and strike it without pilot involvement. Ukrspecsystems deputy director Andrii Rymaruk told Defender Media this in an interview.

“If the pilot locks onto a target from a distance of up to 3 km, presses the ‘Attack’ button and then loses the connection, the system will engage the target automatically,” Rymaruk explains. “Once it has locked onto the target, it will not let go, even if the target is moving.”

The manager noted that RAM-2X uses visual navigation, which means the munition does not rely on a satellite signal (GNSS) and is not affected by electronic warfare. “The system positions itself in space, making the operator’s job easier,” he said.

Rymaruk added that a fully autonomous version of RAM-2X could be available by the end of the year. In his view, this is the future of strike drones: “The crew will not have to be involved in every second of the flight: reconnaissance detects the target, passes on its coordinates, and the aircraft goes hunting autonomously.”

RAM-2X has been used by Ukraine’s Defence Forces since 2024, but Ukrspecsystems only officially unveiled the loitering munition at the MSPO 2026 defence exhibition in Poland on Sept. 8. The company has also begun releasing footage of strikes on high-value targets carried out using RAM-2X.

According to Rymaruk, the system is now in service with around 100 units. RAM-2X is currently used to strike an average of 50 to 60 pieces of enemy equipment each month.
