Omega Special Operations Centre unveils maritime drone for FPV drone delivery

Engineers from the separate diving unit of the Omega Special Operations Centre and an unnamed IT company have developed their first uncrewed surface vessel. It will be used for combat missions in southern Ukraine.

Currently, the USV operates as a platform for delivering FPV drones. In future, there are plans to fit it with interceptors to strengthen coastal defence.

This spring, the Unmanned Systems Forces shot down a Shahed for the first time using an interceptor drone launched from a surface drone. The USV Dolphin was used for this.

As a reminder, 20–25 companies in Ukraine currently produce surface and underwater drones. The Naval Forces are among the most active users. Historically, the Defence Intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine have also frequently used maritime drones, but currently communicate less about their successes.

At the same time, according to Denys Kanin, head of the Maritime Drone Association, the Unmanned Systems Forces will soon become the most active users. It is known that uncrewed surface vessel battalions are being deployed in several Unmanned Systems Forces brigades.
