Himera and Danish GomSpace launch OBRIA NANO – a test satellite for the future Ukrainian communications network
An important next step will be localising satellite and ground communications terminal production in Ukraine

Ukrainian communications solutions developer Himera has announced the launch of OBRIA NANO, the first test satellite of the future independent Ukrainian communications network. It was placed into orbit together with the Danish company GomSpace, the developer told Defender Media.
The satellite was launched as part of the SpaceX Transporter-18 mission on 1 October 2026. The companies are already operating it, and it is successfully undergoing tests of the OBRIA satellite constellation’s capabilities according to plan.
The technical tests are intended to provide the practical experience needed for the further development of the project within Ukraine’s national infrastructure. In the long term, the companies plan to deploy a satellite network that will provide communications across the entire territory of Ukraine and will also complement the capabilities of European satellite networks.
Himera adds that OBRIA NANO will be under the control of a Ukrainian operator and will work to meet the needs of Ukraine’s strategic security. An important next step will be localising satellite and ground communications terminal production in Ukraine.
Ukrainian company Stetman previously announced the launch of satellite production in Ukraine. It signed an agreement with the same company, GomSpace, to establish a joint venture. However, it is currently unknown what stage the project is at.
