Ukrainian Armor upgrades Protector UGV, nearly doubling its payload capacity

Ukrainian defence company Ukrainian Armor has upgraded its heavy Protector unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), nearly doubling its payload capacity from 770 kg to 1,480 kg.

In a comment to Defender Media, a company representative said the upgraded Protector also features a new camera with voice control.

In addition, Ukrainian Armor has enhanced the UGV’s communications system by adding LTE connectivity alongside its primary Starlink communication channel.

The decision to increase Protector’s payload capacity followed an analysis of operational performance, which showed that the platform’s actual capabilities exceeded its previously stated specifications.

The manufacturer also refined the vehicle’s design. To ensure stable operation under the increased load, Protector has been equipped with air springs in the rear suspension.

According to the company, one military unit carried out 42 missions with its Protector UGV in June, transporting 44 tonnes of cargo.
