Swarmer is launching an autonomous air defence project in partnership with X-Drone, Norda and Kara Dag

The Ukrainian-American defence tech developer Swarmer has announced a collaboration with Ukrainian companies X-Drone, Norda Dynamics, and Kara Dag Technologies to develop an integrated system for intercepting unmanned threats.

The project entails the integration of detection, targeting, autonomous command-and-control, and interception systems into a single platform. The partners intend to develop a solution capable of countering not only FPV drones but also a broader spectrum of aerial threats — ranging from small quadcopters to larger tactical unmanned systems — as well as uncrewed surface vessels up to eight metres in length.

Under the signed memorandums of understanding, Swarmer will be responsible for integrating technologies into its autonomous control platform. Detection, targeting, and interception systems developed by the Ukrainian partners are expected to be interfaced with the platform.

The company states that the ultimate objective is to create a mobile site-defence system that can be transported in a containerised format and deployed in less than 24 hours. The system is designed to operate without pilot intervention during the engagement phase. Furthermore, the platform will remain compatible with hardware from various manufacturers.

The Ukrainian company X-Drone supplies UAS, interceptor drones in particular. According to the company, over 70,000 drones have already been delivered to the front line.

Norda Dynamics develops terminal guidance systems and navigation software. According to the company, its Underdog system has been integrated into more than 60,000 drones operated by the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The company is currently refining autonomous guidance for FPV drones designed to intercept aerial, maritime, and ground targets.

The Ukrainian-American company Kara Dag Technologies specialises in portable RF detectors, acoustic sensors, and signal triangulation software. The company states that it has delivered more than 3,000 detector units to the Ukrainian military.
