In 2026, the military portion of the EU’s €90-billion loan will be spent on drones, ammunition, missiles – including long-range ones – and air defence systems for Ukraine. This is reported by “European Pravda”, citing anonymous senior EU officials. The sum in question is approximately €30 billion; in total, €60 billion of the €90-billion loan will go towards military needs.

The first tranche, of around €6 billion, is expected to arrive within this quarter. It will be spent on drones manufactured in Ukraine. According to the publication’s sources, the first tranche will fund the procurement of 2.8 million drones at an average unit price of €2,000.

The second tranche is expected to be of the same size and will also concern unmanned systems. These funds will be used to procure deep-strike drones. Two further disbursements will be dedicated to the procurement of missiles, including long-range variants, as well as air defence systems, the outlet reports. In addition, funds from the EU loan are planned to cover the procurement of ammunition.

The European Commission expects Ukraine to submit four production schedules for approval this month, as both sides wish to move to contracting and delivery as quickly as possible. The EP adds that Ukraine wishes to procure weapons primarily from Ukrainian manufacturers or from outside the EU, whereas the European Union expects contracts to go to Ukrainian and European manufacturers, with limited exceptions.
