The Lava Unmanned Systems Regiment, part of the Khartiia Corps, has conducted its first autonomous mission with the Apex.AI unmanned ground vehicle. The drone travelled almost 20 km without an operator thanks to AI integration.
To begin, the route must be scanned and a 3D model created, explains Dzhava, a senior UGV operator. The drone uploads this model, then travels along the road autonomously.
This technology lets the operator focus on tracking threats, such as mines or enemy FPV drones, rather than on the driving itself.
Lava say that autonomous movement is currently suitable for logistics missions. However, the technology will be most useful in evacuation operations.
Apex.AI is an international company that develops software for robotics, physical AI and more. In April 2026, it developed its first UGV, and in July, it conducted its first trials on the front line in Ukraine.
