Flamingo shown to the public for the first time: photos of the cruise missile and comments from Fire Point’s CTO

Ukrainian company Fire Point has publicly unveiled its FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile for the first time. This took place on the eve of the Joint Ventures, Joint Defence forum, organised by Ukraine’s Tech Forces in Lviv on 27–28 August. Defender Media attended the event and spoke with Fire Point CTO Iryna Terekh.

New details about the Flamingo

The FP-5 “Flamingo” is a ground-launched missile designed to deliver a warhead of up to 1,150 kg against land targets with fixed topographical coordinates at distances of up to 3,000 km.

According to its developers, it is the largest missile system in its class, while remaining relatively simple to manufacture and launch. The “Flamingo” uses reusable truck-mounted launchers. Fire Point says that during transportation, the launcher with an FP-5 can be disguised as an ordinary lorry.

Fire Point CTO Iryna Terekh notes that 90% of the cruise missile consists of components from domestic manufacturers or is produced in-house.

At the stand in Lviv, a pink version of the missile was shown. Iryna Terekh assured that the production version looks different, but denied that the pink colouring was the result of a manufacturing defect (as had been suggested earlier by the Associated Press).

“They say flamingos are pink because they eat shrimp – that’s why they have that colour. Our Flamingo will be black, because we ‘eat’ Russian oil refineries,” Terekh said.

How Fire Point is growing and what else it produces

According to the CTO, in just three years Fire Point has grown from 18 employees to 2,200. The company has its own distributed infrastructure for research, development and manufacturing, covering a total of 175,000 m².

In addition to the FP-5 cruise missiles, Fire Point manufactures long-range strike UAVs: the FP-1 (deep strike, with a range of up to 1,400 km) and the FP-2 (front strike). Deployment of these UAVs takes only 18 minutes. They are equipped with a concealed launch system using a rocket booster, which can be operated from both a stationary platform and a mobile truck-based launcher.

According to Iryna Terekh, several more new products from Fire Point will be unveiled by the end of 2025.
