Ukrainian intelligence officers test new AI system to coordinate UGVs and naval drones
The system allows UGVs and USVs to be coordinated from a single command post and synchronised with the actions of special forces

Ukrainian military intelligence specialists are developing and testing an automated AI system for inter-operational command and intelligence. It is designed to support combined combat operations involving naval drones and ground robotic systems.
The new development was discussed on the ‘Ukrainian Jenny meets…’ podcast by a Ukrainian Defence Intelligence (DIU) special forces operator using the call sign “Ninth” (“Dev’yatyi”), who commands the Chornomorskyi Legion maritime unit of the DIU’s FERRATA active operations unit. In particular, “Ninth” oversees the deployment of ground robotic systems and unmanned maritime vehicles.
According to the serviceman, the system is designed to bring different environments into a single operational loop: from one command post, it allows operators to coordinate both ground robotic systems and naval drones, synchronising their operations with the actions of special forces on the ground. “What is being tested now will be an incredible system that will allow us to fight much more effectively,” “Ninth” said.
The developers highlight a fundamental shift in the operational concept of unmanned systems. “Ninth” characterizes the exclusive use of drones as kamikaze weapons as an outdated technology, noting that the unit has advanced “three levels forward.” This new technological tier targets more intricate maritime missions: the system’s capabilities extend beyond merely destroying targets, enabling operators to remotely intercept, seize, and forcibly escort sanctioned or hostile vessels—along with their cargo—to Ukrainian ports.
For security reasons, the intelligence service is withholding the precise technical designations and specifications of the system. The platform’s new modules are presently undergoing operational trial during live combat missions.
