Ukrainian Armed Forces adopt heavy hexacopter “Volynyaka”

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has codified and approved for service in the Armed Forces the domestic unmanned aerial system “Volynyaka”. This is a heavy hexacopter capable of carrying up to 10 kg of explosives or cargo. Designed to engage enemy personnel and armoured targets, the drone can operate day and night.

The system comprises a control panel, pilot goggles, a repeater, and a reusable hexacopter powered by six brushless motors. It is purpose-built for cargo delivery in combat conditions and is capable of deploying munitions effective against heavily armoured targets. It can also perform logistical tasks, such as transporting equipment to forward positions.

According to Ukrainian manufacturer Wardrone.pro, “Volynyaka” can operate under electronic warfare conditions. Its key feature is a universal drop system, which enables compatibility with up to 80% of the munitions currently in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The hexacopter can carry a payload of up to 10 kg over distances of up to 30 km. It is equipped with a multi-channel communication system, a FLIR640x480 thermal imager, a digital/analogue video system, and a Gremsy Mio stabiliser. A collapsible frame ensures ease of transport.

Initial versions of the drone have been in frontline use since the early months of the full-scale invasion. They are credited with the destruction of hundreds of enemy assets, including military equipment, dugouts, and personnel. The drones are capable of performing missions in challenging weather conditions, including high winds and low visibility. Newer iterations offer enhanced technical performance.
