BlueBird Tech partners with R&D bureau to develop guided aerial bombs

Ukrainian technology company BlueBird Tech has announced a strategic partnership with a domestic research and design bureau. The primary focus of the collaboration will be the development and subsequent serial production of indigenous guided aerial bombs, the company stated.

The joint initiative integrates engineers and designers specialising in missile and ordnance technologies. The partner organisations have already commenced work on the initial engineering phases within the new development framework.

According to BlueBird Tech representatives, the programme’s launch is driven by the critical need to expand Ukraine’s precision-strike capabilities. This is in direct response to ongoing Russian cross-border assaults and frontline offensive operations. Expected timelines for prototype evaluation or test-ready platforms remain classified.

Additional specifications regarding the prospective guided munitions — including their performance characteristics, development schedules, and projected production volumes — also remain undisclosed. Furthermore, the company declined to comment on whether the project receives state grant funding.

Earlier, Defender Media reported on Ukraine’s inaugural guided aerial bomb, the Vyrivniuvach, which features a 250 kg warhead and reportedly costs approximately three times less than the American JDAM-ER system. That munition was developed over 17 months by DG Industry.
