Codified laser simulator for the Stinger MANPADS: technical insights
The system operates within a 100-metre range and features a target drone fitted with hit-detection sensors

Following the official service clearance of the domestically produced FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS simulator developed by SKIFTECH, detailed technical specifications of the system have emerged as it is actively integrated into air defence training pipelines.
Operating within a 100-metre range, the system utilizes a specialized drone equipped with hit-detection sensors to serve as a physical aerial target. Furthermore, the developers have prioritized mobility: the entire suite can be deployed in the field within just 10 minutes and offers an autonomous battery life of up to 28 hours.
The simulator precisely replicates the weight, dimensions, and operational logic of the actual US-made Stinger MANPADS. Its non-invasive design allows the laser training kit to be mounted onto the weapon without altering its core mechanical assemblies. The hardware runs on proprietary software, enabling instructors to monitor live telemetry data second by second.
This setup allows operators to safely and continuously practice engaging contemporary aerial threats, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. All captured data and hit statistics are logged for subsequent performance analysis and training curriculum adjustments.
SKIFTECH told Defender Media that the simulator is currently priced at UAH 1 million.
Previously, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine cleared similar training solutions for service within the Armed Forces, including the Chaika and Chaika-M simulators designed for counter-UAV training.
