Ukraine and Canada sign a declaration on defence cooperation, Drone Deal expected by end of September

Ukraine and Canada have signed a declaration on defence and security cooperation. It is the first step towards agreeing on the Drone Deal format. The agreement was signed by Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the President’s Office reported.

The agreement envisages more active cooperation in the defence industry, including exchanging experience and technology and localising production in Ukraine and Canada. In addition, the countries signed a declaration on a hundred-year partnership and a joint statement on energy cooperation.

Ukraine expects to conclude the Drone Deal itself during the UN General Assembly meeting in New York at the end of September. Zelensky said this at a press conference with Carney, European Pravda reports.

The two states plan to jointly produce UAVs, counter-drone systems, and munitions. According to the Ukrainian president, Canada is ready to increase drone production and will transfer 30% of what is produced to Ukraine.

Zelensky also said that, together with Carney, he watched drones that will ‘be among the first to become operational under this agreement’. Logos of several Ukrainian companies can be seen in the video, including Ratel Robotics and SkyFall.

Ratel Robotics has confirmed to Defender Media that it is one of the participants in the upcoming Drone Deal.

Earlier, the Ukrainian company Airlogix announced a joint venture with the Canadian company Sentinel R&D – the manufacturer of the ReKam UAV. On the same day, the defence ministries of Canada and Ukraine signed an agreement to support the production of Ukrainian UAVs in Canada.

Also, Ukrainska Bavovna announced a strategic partnership with the Canadian platform UCan Brave Tech. Its representatives explained that the manufacturer’s role is to provide services for idea validation, laboratory, field and combat testing, as well as solutions integration into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
