Netherlands to provide €500M in financing for Ukraine’s ‘Drone Line’
The project involves the development of modern unmanned systems and the creation of a killzone for Russians at a range of 10-15 km

The Dutch government is providing Ukraine with a €2B financing package. The package includes €500 million for the Drone Line project, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said during a visit to Kyiv on March 31.
“We are providing Ukraine with €2 billion in accelerated support, including a €500 million drone financing project. These drones are changing the battlefield and literally saving lives,” Brekelmans said. According to him, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov specifically requested financial support for the Drone Line during a recent visit to the Netherlands — it strengthens Ukraine’s position on the front lines and at the negotiating table.
Brekelmans, together with State Secretary Gijs Tuinman, visited the sites of recent attacks in Dnipro, where they saw the consequences of russian strikes. They also met with the Ukrainian army command on the eastern front, discussing the current situation and the need for defence support.
In October 2024, the Netherlands announced an investment of €400 million in a joint project with Ukraine to develop and produce drones for reconnaissance, defense, and attack. Half of these drones were to be developed in the Netherlands, with the rest being developed in Ukraine and other countries.
The Drone Line project was initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in coordination with the Land Forces Command, the State Border Service, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation. The objective of the Drone Line is to develop modern unmanned systems and establish a network of specialized units equipped with advanced UAVs, providing infantry with air support, cover, and the capability to detect and eliminate targets at ranges of 10-15 km. This will create a so-called “killzone,” where the enemy will be unable to advance without sustaining significant losses.
The project also involves scaling up the most effective drone warfare solutions, developing infrastructure for their production and maintenance, and training operators and technical specialists. Leading units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, such as “Raroh,” “K-2,” “Phoenix,” “Achilles,” and “Ptakhy of Madyar”, have already joined the initiative.
