Unwave has completed its first state order for the supply of Octopus interceptor drones and is ready for new contracts

Ukrainian defence tech company Unwave has completed its first state order for the Octopus interceptor drone. The manufacturer says only a few months elapsed between receiving the production licence and fulfilling the contract.

The company received its licence to scale interceptor production at the end of December 2025. Unwave’s CEO told Defender Media that the company would initially manufacture drones for pilot schools. The company fulfilled its first contract with a military unit on 30 March 2026. On 10 June, it completed its first state order under a cooperation agreement with the Defence Procurement Agency.

Unwave adds that it is continuing to work with units of Ukraine’s Armed Forces under direct contracts. At the same time, the company is counting on further state orders and therefore maintains a stockpile of components and production capacity to fulfil contracts rapidly.

Octopus is an interceptor drone developed within Ukraine’s Armed Forces system. The UAV can reach speeds of over 300 km/h, operate at altitudes of up to 5 km, and features target detection and terminal guidance technology.

In February, Unwave CEO Yurii Shelmuk also said that the company could sell its own drones in the future. In June, he was replaced in the role by Taras Bublyk. Commenting on his appointment, he noted that the company’s leadership sees Unwave’s future in building comprehensive counter-drone threat ecosystems. Founder and co-owner Yurii Shelmuk will now focus on the company’s strategic development, product vision, and deepening cooperation with the state.
