Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has officially codified and approved the remotely operated, self-propelled armoured platform UNEX UGV, a joint Ukrainian-Czech development. The vehicle is manufactured in Europe and has undergone combat testing under real operational conditions in Ukraine.

​The UNEX UGV is an unmanned, multi-purpose platform designed for operations in challenging terrains. Its innovative chassis and wide, low-pressure tires enable it to traverse swamps, ice, rocky landscapes, and water bodies without additional preparation. The vehicle’s low ground pressure minimizes the risk of triggering anti-tank mines, enhancing safety during missions.

The platform is equipped with a secure control system featuring a programmable autopilot, “Follow Me” functionality, resistance to electronic warfare, encrypted communication channels, and signal retransmission capability.

The UNEX UGV is fully electric, with an autonomous operating time of up to six hours, and a payload capacity of up to 1,700 kg. It can overcome obstacles up to one metre high. The modular design enables the vehicle to be configured for a wide range of missions: combat operations, casualty evacuation, electronic warfare, logistics, demining, and even missile deployment. Each module is tailored to perform specific tasks effectively, providing operational flexibility.

According to Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Valerii Churkin, since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Ministry has codified and approved nearly 80 domestically produced ground robotic systems for use by the Defence Forces, with another 15 expected to be introduced in 2025. “The Defence Forces already have experience carrying out combat missions — including repelling assaults — using ground-based robots and aerial drones,” he noted.

Recently, the state defence technology cluster Brave1 conducted Ukraine’s largest-ever field trials of ground robotic complexes: more than 70 systems developed by 50 Ukrainian manufacturers were tested at a single training ground.
