Ukraine’s Defence Forces conducted the underground counteroffensive operation Veles in the Kupiansk direction. Under the command of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine Khartiia, troops advanced 15 km and captured more than 30 Russians, according to a press release.

The corps says it studied the Russians’ experience of underground operations and “outplayed them on their own field”. The troops advanced more than 15 km through underground utilities after first undergoing physical and psychological training.

Sappers, engineers, and a support battalion equipped the route, and underground, the corps used its own technological solutions for communication, navigation, and life support. The specifics of these solutions have not yet been disclosed.

At the same time, the offensive was synchronised with the surface actions. There, the Achilles unmanned systems brigade carried out drone strikes on the enemy.

As a result, the Russians lost the opportunity to enter the rear of Kupiansk. In addition to the 30 taken prisoner, the enemy lost more than 100 further personnel.

The Ukrainian grouping included the Khartiia brigade, units of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the R.U.H assault regiment, the Lava unmanned systems regiment, the Achilles brigade and other units.
