The 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, Khartia, has announced the creation of a new unit — the Unmanned Systems Battalion ‘Lava.’ According to the corps’ press service, Lava will concentrate the most advanced technologies and developments in unmanned and robotic systems accrued by Khartia and other brigades in the corps.

Commanders say the new battalion will significantly strengthen the corps’ combat power by providing:

  • deep reconnaissance and precision strikes in the enemy rear;
  • automated data collection and analysis using AI;
  • logistics solutions adapted for combat conditions;
  • large-scale employment of aerial and ground unmanned systems.

Lava will integrate the full spectrum of drone operations: reconnaissance and surveillance (real-time, high-resolution imagery); strike missions; mine-laying and demining; logistics and medical evacuation; and assault operations using robotic complexes for complex tasks.
