{"id":34475,"date":"2026-07-15T15:38:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T12:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/?p=34475"},"modified":"2026-07-16T20:21:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:21:34","slug":"ukraine-edf-usi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2026\/07\/ukraine-edf-usi\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian defence companies to gain access to EU funding programmes, including \u20ac300m Ukraine Support Instrument"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukrainian defence companies will gain access to EU programmes: the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2025\/11\/ukraine-to-gain-access-to-edf\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2025\/11\/ukraine-to-gain-access-to-edf\/\">European Defence Fund (EDF)<\/a> and the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP). The relevant agreements were signed this week by European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius and Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during the Ukraine\u2013EU Defence Industry Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the agreements are ratified by parliament, Ukrainian companies will be eligible to apply for grants to support research and development projects under the European Defence Fund, as well as funding to expand manufacturing capacity through the European Defence Industry Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until now, Ukrainian defence companies could only participate in European Defence Fund programmes as third-country entities, significantly limiting their access to funding. Once the agreements take effect, they will be able to join EDF projects as full beneficiaries, receive direct EU grants, and participate in joint research and development programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, EDF projects will now be able to be carried out in Ukraine, including testing and evaluating new technologies under real-world conditions. Joint projects will also support the development of defence systems in line with NATO and European Union standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-left wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2026\/07\/dorozvidka-68\/\"><strong>Dorozvidka #68: <\/strong>What\u2019s next for Fedorov, Ukraine\u2019s UGV lands on the Kinburn Spit, Smetanin steps down, and FREYJA<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate component of EDIP is the Ukraine Support Instrument (USI), which has a budget of \u20ac300 million. Of that amount, \u20ac260 million is earmarked for expanding the manufacturing capacity of Ukraine&#8217;s defence industry, while a further \u20ac35.3 million will fund innovation projects through the BraveTech EU USI grant programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a Brave1 representative, the Ukrainian defence technology cluster will provide grants of up to \u20ac200,000 for projects with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 or higher. The grants may cover up to 100% of eligible project costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A spokesperson for the cluster also stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2025\/07\/bravetech-eu-launch-100-mln\/\">BraveTech EU<\/a>, established under the European Defence Fund, is already operating as a joint mechanism to support defence innovation in Ukraine and the European Union.
