{"id":27869,"date":"2026-04-20T15:04:05","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/?p=27869"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:09:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:09:18","slug":"nemesis-intercepts-shahed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2026\/04\/nemesis-intercepts-shahed\/","title":{"rendered":"For the first time, Ukrainians shot down a Shahed using an interceptor launched from a surface drone"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A division within the 412th Nemesis Brigade has, for the first time, downed an enemy Shahed drone using an <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/tags\/interceptor-drones\/\">interceptor UAV<\/a> launched from an unmanned surface platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Unmanned Systems Forces added that this represents a new level of maritime and aerial drone integration, forming an additional layer of defence for Ukrainian cities. The statement, however, contains no details about the drones used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March, The Economist journalist Oliver Carroll published <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/olliecarroll\/status\/2030123413600145858?s=20\">footage <\/a>showing a drone launching from a Magura platform \u2013 a maritime drone developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/tags\/uforce\/\">UForce<\/a>. Pilots control the interceptors remotely via Starlink. According to Carroll, this integration was first employed near Odesa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also known that the Nemesis brigade closely cooperates with UForce.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1437713394282773%2F&#038;show_text=false&#038;width=380&#038;t=0\" width=\"380\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">USF commander <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/robert_magyar\/2232\">Robert &#8220;Magyar&#8221; Brovdi<\/a> confirmed that the force is &#8220;going to sea with unmanned surface vessels carrying interceptor drones.&#8221; The first enemy UAVs to be downed this way were intercepted by the aforementioned unmanned surface systems division within the 412th Nemesis Brigade. A similar division is being deployed within the USF&#8217;s 414th Brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, between 1 and 19 April, USF ground interceptor crews destroyed 4,465 aerial targets, including 671 Shahed and Herbera drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-left wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefender.media\/en\/2026\/03\/defender-media-birthday-fundraising\/\">Defender Media is raising UAH 500,000 for interceptor drones for the 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The drone was downed by a division within the 412th Nemesis Brigade.
