On 25 September, former Minister of Digital Transformation and Defence Mykhailo Fedorov<\/a> unveiled the \u201cArmy of Robots\u201d, a new defence tech project, at the IT Arena 2026 conference in Lviv. According to a statement from Fedorov\u2019s press service, the project will bring together a venture fund investing in technology teams, Fedorov\u2019s own defence tech companies and an R&D unit \u201cfocused on continuously finding, developing and testing new solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of the Army of Robots is to accelerate the use of robotics in warfare and \u201cremove people from the most dangerous tasks on the battlefield as much as possible\u201d. The project is currently looking for companies, engineers and specialists working on robotics, sensors and AI<\/a>. The team is also hiring a CTO\/Tech Lead for the project. Applications can be submitted through the Army of Robots<\/a> website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team plans to build the new project on the experience of the Army of Drones, which Fedorov and his team began developing in 2022. At the same time, the Army of Robots is being created to implement a new doctrine of warfare in which humanoid robots will gradually take over an increasing share of the most dangerous physical tasks currently performed by people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this doctrine, sensors \u2014 including cameras, acoustic, seismic and other systems \u2014 are expected to monitor the battlefield around the clock, track movement and detect threats. Different types of robots would conduct reconnaissance, deliver ammunition, evacuate the wounded, lay and clear mines, protect positions, engage targets and be the first to enter the most dangerous areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will be built around the real needs of the military, according to the press release. The team will identify a specific battlefield problem, find a technological solution and a team, provide resources for development, help test the product with the military in real-world conditions and scale solutions that prove effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will have specific OKRs. Within six months, the team plans to achieve its first confirmed battlefield result using a humanoid robot. Within 12 months, it plans to conduct an assault operation in which robots will carry out the most dangerous parts of the mission without infantry involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
