The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has codified all eight variants of the Quasar 3M EW system manufactured by TAF Industries.

According to the manufacturer, more than 500 codified Quasar systems are already in operation on the front lines. Defender Media explains what is important to know about this EW system.

Quasar 3M lineup

The Quasar 3M system includes eight variants that differ in the number of jamming modules and supported frequency ranges. The Ministry of Defence has codified all versions, from Quasar 3M 3 to Quasar 3M 10.

Depending on the number of modules, the systems are grouped into three configurations: small (3–5 frequency bands), medium (6–8), large (9–10).

All modules can operate simultaneously. The systems are coded for the 120–5850 MHz frequency range, which enables the suppression of enemy drones’ control and communication channels across a wide spectrum of frequencies.

Technical specifications

According to the manufacturer, the Quasar 3M provides the following:

  • Simultaneous operation across 19 frequencies;
  • Module output power of up to 100 W without loss of energy efficiency;
  • An effective operating radius of up to 300 meters;
  • 1.5–2 hours of autonomous operation on battery power.

The system supports LoRa, a radio communication technology with high interference resistance used in drones and relay systems. It employs various antenna types, including quadrifilar, collinear, and directional, allowing the system to adapt to specific coverage sectors.

GaN modules ensure stable operation under high loads and dense signal suppression. According to the company, this combination enables effective operation against communication systems with a high gain factor.

Testing and Configuration

All Quasar EW systems are equipped with an IP66 protection rating. These products have undergone external testing for temperature (up to 70°C) and vibration resistance, as well as protection against dust and moisture.

The manufacturer emphasises that the systems are fully configured, including the jamming units, antennas, batteries, chargers, and mounting hardware.

Defender Media previously reported on updates to the Quasar EW lineup and their demonstration at a Field TAF Industries Demo Day. The outlet also reported that TAF Industries acquired a controlling stake in the Quasar EW systems manufacturer as part of its M&A strategy.

TAF Industries is a Ukrainian defence tech company that has been developing and manufacturing defence solutions since 2023. It operates its own R&D centre and a network of production facilities and has a portfolio of more than 30 products, most of which are certified by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
