German company Quantum Systems has announced an investment in Ukrainian drone manufacturer WIY Drones. While the terms of the deal remain undisclosed, Quantum Systems will finance a contract to supply 15,000 WIY STRILA interceptor drones to the National Guard of Ukraine.

WIY Drones specialises in the development and production of interceptor drones, reconnaissance and strike UAVs, as well as ground control stations and related systems. STRILA is the company’s flagship air-defence drone, designed to engage aerial targets such as Shahed-type UAVs.

STRILA has a maximum speed of 350 km/h and a ceiling of 5,000 m. Its tactical range is 14 km, with a maximum range of 28 km when carrying a payload. The payload capacity is up to 500 g, and endurance with payload is up to 10 minutes.

Quantum Systems’ investment will be used to scale production of the STRILA UAV. “Production of the STRILA system will initially be expanded in Ukraine to address the urgent operational demand, with future exports of surplus production being a possibility,” the company said.

Further details on the STRILA interceptor and plans for joint development and production between Quantum Systems and WIY Drones are expected to be announced soon.

Commenting on the deal, Quantum Systems Co-CEO Sven Kruck said Ukrainian engineers have developed some of the most effective counter-drone technologies in the world. “Quantum Systems brings these solutions to industrial scale and helps Ukraine close its sky,” he added.
