The international ecosystem Beetroot is launching a new defence unit – Beetroot Defence. It will combine several tracks: training for deftech specialists through Beetroot Academy, engineering and R&D services from Beetroot Tech, and an investment track from Varangians. The new unit is headed by Oleh Krisenko, a veteran with over ten years of service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Within the defence direction, the Beetroot Academy trains specialists in engineering and dual-use areas. The training programmes were developed in collaboration with specialists from the defence industry. Two courses are currently available on the platform: Embedded Development and Drone Firmware. There are also plans to launch a programme called Cybersecurity for Embedded.

Beetroot Tech’s engineering division provides services in embedded development, AI, microcontroller and firmware development for drones, machine vision, and cybersecurity. In addition to engineering, Beetroot Defence offers consulting, testing, and technology auditing services.

The company’s founder, Andreas Flodström, is also the co-founder of the investment company Varangians, which is also part of the defence division. It invests in Ukrainian and international defence tech companies, with Himera, Norda Dynamics, and Sine Engineering currently in its portfolio.
