On 8–10 December, the NATO Innovation Range showcase competition took place in Finland, bringing together 17 European defence tech companies. Among them were two Ukrainian teams — Sine Engineering and Dwarf Engineering. Ukrainian servicemen from the 413th Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces “Raid” were also part of the jury and mentoring team.

The Ukrainian delegation was led by Oles Khudoba, co-founder of Double Tap Investments. Defender Media spoke with him to learn more about the event.

According to the investor, this was the first NATO Innovation Range event held in Finland. It was organised by the Finnish accelerator DEFINE in cooperation with NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), as well as RAIN.global and Crazy Town. The competition consisted of pitch sessions and live field trials.

The participating teams included both startups and more mature market players, such as ARX Robotics, Tekever, Alta Ares, Kraken and others. Oles Khudoba noted that most of the projects are already testing their solutions in Ukraine.

Teams competed across four categories:

  • Resilient Connectivity
  • AI-Enhanced Decision Support
  • 5G/6G and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Integration
  • Mission Assurance in Extreme Conditions

The winner in the Resilient Connectivity category, which focused on communications solutions for unmanned systems, was Sine Engineering. According to Khudoba, the company already has a representative office in Finland.

Defense Innovation Highway reports that among AI solutions, the jury highlighted the Finnish project Kuva Space. In the 5G/6G category, the winner was the UK-based JET Connectivity, and in the final category, victory went to the Finnish team Kelluu.
