Polish WB Group, the manufacturer of reconnaissance drones FlyEye, has launched new production facilities in Ukraine, the company’s press service reported.

In early 2025, the company established full-scale production at one of its Ukrainian sites, which had already been servicing Polish systems for the Ukrainian military for over a decade. Due to security concerns and intensified attacks on Ukraine’s defence infrastructure, the information had not been published until now. It was revealed following a visit to the plant by the head of the Polish diplomatic mission in Ukraine, Piotr Lukasiewicz.

The FlyEye drone has an operational range of up to 50 kilometres and can remain in the air for two to three hours, depending on weather conditions. For reconnaissance purposes, it is equipped with a GS4 optical station featuring both day and thermal imaging channels, enabling identification of objects at a distance of 5–7 kilometres.

FlyEye offers a high degree of automation: most mechanical operations, including landing and route following, are carried out by the autopilot. The third generation of the system introduced an automatic convoy mode, which can be used both to track targets and to accompany friendly convoys in order to detect ambushes in advance.

The drone has a modular design and can be transported easily in two backpacks. It requires no additional equipment for take-off or landing: launch is performed almost vertically from the operator’s hand, while landing is automatic, even within confined spaces, with additional protection for the payload module. The battery is used only during take-off and ascent; for the remainder of the flight, the aircraft glides with the engine switched off, making it significantly harder to detect by enemy radar.

The first FlyEye drones entered service with the Ukrainian military in 2015. The system was developed in 2010 and adopted by the Polish armed forces in the same year.

As a reminder, the Polish energy and logistics group Unimot earlier announced an investment of $110,000 in joint drone production with Ukraine.
