The Ukrainian defence innovation cluster Brave1 has unveiled the country’s first ammunition specifically designed to counter FPV drones and commercial quadcopters using standard infantry rifles, according to United24.
The new 5.45mm ammunition has a special warhead that creates a dense fragmentation effect when fired, significantly increasing the chances of hitting fast-moving air targets. The innovation of the development is that it does not require any modifications to automatic rifles. Soldiers can use these cartridges immediately as a means of self-defence during air attacks on the front line.
The ammunition has already been codified for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is being prepared for mass deployment. According to Brave1, each infantryman should be equipped with at least one magazine of such ammunition.
It is also worth noting that Ukraine also launched the production of its own tactical radars to detect enemy drones.
