Brave1, a Ukrainian government platform for defence tech, conducted the first tests of fiber-optic FPV drones in Ukraine, achieving a range of over 20 km. More than 15 manufacturers tested their drones at a training ground, where the UAVs successfully navigated obstacles and simulated target engagement. This test marked an important step in developing long-range solutions for the battlefield.

”If the first Ukrainian fiber-optic drones could only fly 5-10 km, this time we successfully tested long-range solutions capable of striking the enemy at distances over 20 km,” noted Natalia Kushnerska, CEO of Brave1.

Fiber-optic FPV drones are critically important due to their resistance to electronic warfare (EW) systems. They ensure stable communication, emit no radio signals, and remain undetectable to the enemy. These technologies are already actively used by combat units, including Achilles, the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, and Ptachy of Madyar.

In addition to aerial drones, fiber-optic ground robotic complexes (GRCs) were also tested during the event. They ensure reliable communication even in challenging conditions. Captain Oleksandr Yabchanka from ‘Da Vinci Wolves’ emphasized that this technology significantly enhances the effectiveness of combat missions.

Brave1 is a state-run cluster supporting the development of military technologies in Ukraine. Its grants have been awarded to multiple startups, including SkyLab (Sirko-S ground platform for cargo transportation), Roboneers (Ironclad multifunctional ground robotic complex), Mantis Analytics (real-time information field monitoring platform), Himera, and Piranha-Tech (Piranha anti-drone mobile 5-band portable dome and directional defense complex).

Recently, experts from Brave1, Double Tap Investments, UVCA, and Promavtomatika discussed how startups can secure funding for development and testing during the Def.talks event.
